Prasna Upanishad is found in the Atharva Veda. As the name (Prasna) implies this Upanishad discusses philosophical problems through a series of questions and answers between six students and sage Pippalada. We always have questions in our minds especially about our identity. The Indian idea is that you must know yourself first. Then it will be easier for you to deal with the world that you encounter in your day-to-day life. These students who came to Pippalada were very intelligent and asked very good questions: Where do we come from? What is the source of life? What are the organs that reveal and what is the principal organ? Where does prana (vital breath) come from? How does it enter the body and how does it depart? Who sleeps and who is awake? What happens when you dream? What is the source of happiness? If you meditate on Om where do you go and what do you achieve? Where is that Supreme Being? Where does He exist?... etc. To all these questions the sage gives a suitable answer making it easy of comprehension by means of interesting analogies and similes. This volume is a simple and lucid translation of the Upanishad with explanation & detailed introduction and follows Shankara's interpretation. This compilation is based on Swami Lokeswarananda's weekly discourses on the Upanishad.
