Vivekachudamani of Sri Shankaracharya (English)

The foremost proponent of Advaita, Adi Sankara, who wrote scholarly commentaries on the scriptures, also wrote easy to understand philosophical works for the ordinary aspirant. One such is the Vivekachudamani or Crest Jewel of Discrimination. A dialogue between the guru and the disciple is presented in 580 mellifluous verses that are a joy to chant.

This translation by Swami Turiyananda is special in that it is by a Self-realised monk who lived what he taught. His choice of words demonstrates his capacity to reveal an original interpretation and unique angle to Shankara’s scriptural classic. Thanks to Ida Ansell’s (Ujjvala) notes of Swami Turiyananda’s lectures in America, about 100 years ago, this book could take the present form.
